wow....

I can't believe how fast time goes sometimes. I feel like the weeks leading up to Christmas went so slowly and now I am at the end of Jan and it feels like Christmas was yesterday. Here are some pics from this last month.

watching connor for a dr. apt. always fun...

my little Lie LOVES to lay her head on us. Don't get me wrong she is always looking around but when she snuggles up she will do what Ava never would and lay her little head down. I LOVE it!!!

so sweet

thrilled

sweet little princess??? I have never loved the whole princess thing. I hate when little girls wear shirts that say 'i am a princess' I want to tell them that they are actually sinful little girls who need Jesus. I have let Av have princess things (usually not on my dime). Every item is a judgment call but I have to make sure it's a good reason and not my dislike for 'princess' stuff that makes the decision. ANYWAY...I really am trying to avoid the "I'm a princess give me what I want" mentality. The other day Ava had her blanket wrapped around her and I thought she was going to say those forbidden words, "momma, I'm a princess" She didn't...she said, "momma, I'm a queen" NICE!!! I guess you can't take the sinful heart out by banning Disney.

still a little sweetie

after discovering her new teeth...I took some pics but none of them turned out good enough to post

sister time

I love this outfit...its so mixed up but she looked cute in it. It's a princess =) nightgown but it is short sleeved so I make her wear a sweatshirt and it is not long so I make her wear pants.

trying to attack me so she can take some pics

helping fill up the bathtub for Liela

I told her it was time for a pic so she hurried and got diego ready to smile

she is just starting to like standing....Ava was doing it from day one but Lie is a little lazy

enjoying our new chair from nana and grandpa sherf

does ava still put her finger in her belly-button while she sucks her thumb? as you know, stelly is a thumb-sucker too. do you have any thoughts on how long you're going to let ava keep sucking it? i'm asking not b/c i have an opinion, but i'm just curious to see what you think...
i thought that was a new chair...liela's eyes are so pretty...your girls are just beautiful...and how did you get the blessing of normal WHITE tile in an allen park bathroom - not fair!!! :)

No she doesn't do the belly-button thing anymore. If Av had taken a pacifier it would be long gone but as you know the thumb is attached so its a lot harder to stop. I thought two was a good age but then Liela came right after and I just wasn't in a position to be consistent (we both know that is SO important right?!?! =) ) so....I decided two and a half which...she is 2 years 8 months....so I have slowly started to tell her not to suck it. I am sort of telling her only during nap time and bed time or when she is watching a movie or something. Now I am starting to tell her no unless she is in her room for nap time and bed time. I haven't gotten a lot of great advice on the issue since most people that see her and comment say, "Oh, that's so cute....my little Johnny sucked his thumb until he was 12." I don't usually ask them how he kicked the habit. =) One lady at my church did the whole nap time and bed time only and her little girl is 4 and doing pretty well with it I think.

So I know about the bathroom. Our tile is pretty nice color but the floor isn't something to be envied. Its ok color but not in great shape. I guess the trade off for our relatively nice tile is that where we have one outlet we often have two...about 5 inches apart. Apparently the people before us didn't want to worry about switching three pronged outlets in for the two prongers...so they put a new hole in the wall. NICE!!! but they work I guess. These things will make my next house seem nicer than it probably is...so yeah for that.

nic, that is hilarious b/c that is what i always hear about stelly too, "aww, it's so cute she sucks her thumb. it won't be as cute though when she's 16 and still doing it." very encouraging...
i haven't tried to stop her yet either, but i like the approach you mentioned. that's what i've thought about doing - confining it to bed first and then going from there. people have suggested that hot (but safe) polish stuff to "paint" on her thumb, but i've heard they just suck it off and it's not really effective. we'll see...

Hey Nic!
I join you in your hate of the whole princess thing. However, I was teaching Sunday School the Sunday after Christmas and I was asking all the kids what they got for Christmas. Well, this one little girl showed me her new Bible cover and it was pink and said Princess on it. In my heart I was thinking, wow, how sick is that? It's on her BIBLE? So I said to her, so, you are a princess and her very grown up remark to me was, "Yes, I am a daughter of Christ the King, and that makes me a princess." She really put me in my place, I guess! I still wouldn't buy it for my kid, though!

That's funny. Ava is still quite the unsaved little sinner so no worries of confusion here yet.
